THE DREAM
The Dream
I dreamt I was a palm tree
dates cascading from my shoulders
birds relishing the dates
I was thrilled with joy.
I dreamt I was a bee
roaming gardens of light
chasing shades, breezes, and flowers
I was thrilled with joy.
I dreamt I was a pearl
a white pearl, deep down
hidden from sailors and divers
from mornings and evenings
I was thrilled with joy.
I dreamt I was a star
enchanted, in an enchanted world
planted among moons and suns
I was thrilled with joy.
I dreamt I was a word
forgotten in a dusty book
yet full of meaning and poetry
I was filled with joy.
Then I awoke
humiliated
that I am a man.
